Cut the wait
in half.

Ask a guest how the valet was and they won't mention your staffing model or your garage layout. They'll tell you one thing: how long they waited for their car. Here's how to halve it — usually without spending a dollar.

The reframe

Cutting retrieval time isn't about a bigger team. It's about removing dead time.

Halving retrieval time almost never requires more staff or more space. It requires removing the dead time hiding inside your current process — the minutes you lose before anyone has even started moving toward a car.

Five levers, ordered by impact. The first one does more than the other four combined.

The five levers

What actually moves the number

01

Start retrieving before the guest asks

Biggest lever

Most operations start the clock when a guest walks up to the stand. By then you've lost three to five minutes you'll never get back. The fastest operations start earlier.

Guest reaches the curb — only now does retrieval start
Checkout time triggers it early
Or a reservation ending
Or the guest taps 'request my car' on the way down

The car is pulling up as the guest walks out, not starting its journey when they arrive. This one change beats the other four combined.

02

Stage by departure, not arrival

The spot a car goes into determines how long it takes to get back. Keep the cars most likely to leave soon closest to the exit.

Stage by exit time

Same garage, same spaces — just sorted by when each car is likely to move. A guest checking out at 11am shouldn't be buried behind three long-term residents.

03

The other three levers

Each one removes a specific source of delay. Together they finish the job the first two started.

03

Kill the radio relay

'Can someone grab the silver Tahoe?' said three times is pure latency. Send the request straight to the right screen and the runner just runs.

04

Separate request from return

If the returning valet weaves around drop-offs, every retrieval slows at peak. Give returns their own clean path to the curb.

05

Measure it, per shift, per valet

You can't cut a number you don't track. Measure it and the slow patterns become obvious — and the team competes to beat it.

Together

The compounding effect

None of these is dramatic alone. Stacked, they're the difference between an 8-minute average and a 4-minute one.

Two of these five are pure layout and discipline — you can start today with the team and lot you already have.

Where Valletto changes the math

Three of the five levers are exactly what software is for.

Requesting early, routing without the radio relay, and measuring per shift all come down to getting the right information to the right person at the right moment.

The takeaway: with Valletto, a guest can request their car from the same text link they used to pay, the request lands on the right valet's screen with the vehicle attached, and every retrieval is timed automatically. The software raises the ceiling — the habits get you most of the way there.
