The reframe
There's a difference between digitizing a process and replacing it.
Most valet software was built by taking the existing paper-and-radio workflow and putting each step on a screen. The valet still writes a ticket number — now they type it. The guest still waits at the curb — now there's a tablet involved. Nothing actually changed except the medium.
Real software asks a different question: not “how do we digitize this step?” but “why does this step exist at all?”
Two philosophies
Yesterday's software vs. software built for now
Same workflow, new screen — vs. a workflow that disappears
The tell is whether the old steps survive. Legacy tools preserve them. Modern tools delete them.
Built for yesterday
Digitized paper- Ticket number, now typed instead of written
- Guest still waits at the curb to ask
- Payment is still a separate step
- Hardware to buy, mount, and maintain
Built for now
Removes the step- No ticket — a text link to the guest's phone
- Request the car before reaching the curb
- Pay, tip, and validate in the same thread
- Runs on the phones everyone already has
→One side makes the old process faster to operate. The other makes the old process unnecessary.
Why so much of it was built backward
It's not incompetence. It's that most valet tools were built by people digitizing what they saw, not by people rethinking what valet should be.
The trap
Retrofit- Generic parking software, repurposed
- Hardware vendors selling more hardware
- The paper workflow treated as a given
The fix
Ground-up- Built for the shape of valet specifically
- Start from the guest's phone, not a stub
- Question every step before keeping it
→When you start from “what does the guest actually need?” instead of “how do we put the ticket on a screen?” you end up somewhere completely different.
Where Valletto changes the math
We didn't digitize the paper ticket. We got rid of it.
Valletto isn't a tablet version of the old workflow. It starts from the guest's phone and removes the steps that only existed because of paper — the stub, the curbside wait, the separate payment, the hardware.
The takeaway: if your valet software still has you running the same process you ran on paper, it wasn't built for now — it was built for yesterday, with a screen. The future doesn't digitize the ticket. It deletes it.
